New Family Search (NFS) opens to Select Public Groups including the Taylor Family Association

At the Taylor Conference in April, ALL Taylor Family Association members were invited by Ron Tanner, a project director with Family Search, to join their New Family Search Application. This invitation is open to ALL TFA members both members of the LDS Church and Non-LDS members. This is wonderful to have all TFA members have access to this online resource.

To Login you must have an account. The first time you login to new.familysearch.org it will ask for your account ID/name and password. If you do not have one, you are given the option to create an account with the LDS Church. It is very simple. Click “Create an account” and follow the instructions. You can then search the NFS database. It will try and create a pedigree for you based on information in the file. There are also over 300 training courses available to help you and a 24/7 customer service help line service as well.

The NFS can also be linked to your Legacy Family Tree (LFT) database and information can be passed to or from NFS and Legacy. To link the two applications simply open LFT to the file you want to link to NFS. Then select the person in LFT you want to compare. Then click on the Tree Icon on the top of LFT and it will bring up NFS. (You will need to use you LDS account ID and Password.) The system then tries to find the same person in the large Family Search database and place it side by side with your LFT entry.

You can compare and exchange data between the two applications. Be sure you know what you are doing before you transfer data. If you have researched your LFT data, you are in a good position to make these decisions. If you have questions about LFT call Gordon or Ron.

KEEP YOUR Legacy Family Tree database as the AUTHORITY with source information.

We are excited that all members of the TFA can now use this resource.
