DNA Research Update

DNA results are posted for James Cavaness Taylor (descendant of Joseph Irven Taylor)...perfect match with our William Taylor descendants. This confirms the DNA pattern for Joseph Taylor who married Sarah Best and gives us the probable pattern for Joseph Taylor who married Nancy. We need a DNA sample from a male descendant of John Taylor and Ellen Drake and if it matches exactly...we will know the DNA pattern of Joseph Sr...

I have been corresponding by regular mail with Alma M. Benedict. She has made contact with Taylors in the Joseph Best Taylor branch of the family that are descended from the other sons of Joseph Best Taylor...namely James Wesley Taylor and Nicholas Wren Taylor. If they also contribute their DNA samples, then we will have verification of all these branches of Joseph Best Taylor...but the sample from James Cavaness mentioned above is sufficient to show that we have what we need.

The DNA donor from the descendants of Allen Taylor and Lavinia Cherry which has already been processed is Richard Gordon Taylor. I think that I reported earlier that his pattern is also a perfect match. We are waiting for additional samples to be processed.

One that was just recently sent in with the coaxing of Noel is the sample from Cecil Robert Taylor. I spoke with him by phone the other day and we conversed about his Taylor ancestry. I have since researched that lineage a little. I will call this lineage the "Marquis Lafayette Taylor" line. They are from Prince Edward, Goochland, Powhatan, Lynchburg, and Charlotte counties of Virginia. They are married to Williams, Bedford, Cooke, Amoss, Hughes, Daniel, Richardson and other families. There is a "John Taylor" married to "Lavinia Drake" and a "Hughes Taylor" married to "Nancy Drake". There is an "Elizabeth H. Taylor" married to "Stephen Davis". This family had various land holdings and were mainly south of James River as they migrated southward. Some of them are later found around Williamston and other communities in or near our North Carolina counties. It would be great to discover a match with this family as Cecil has been accumulating data on early Taylor families of Virginia for most of his life. I will keep you posted on this one if it matches.

Lastly, I have been able to use the known patterns we have in our study as a key to query into DNA databases at other sites. On the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation, I was able to identify an additional 10 people with our pattern. There will be more as time goes forward. I fully expect to see a match with someone eventually from a European sample. My dream is that we locate someone with old family records that unlock some of the mysteries...I hope that is not only a dream.

I know that Gayle is making headway with the "Adopt-a-County" project and other items. The Lord seems to open things to our view if we simply put forth the effort to look under the stones. So keep on turning those rocks over and we will succeed. Thanks for the good work. We're all in this together (I love the Red Green Show).
