Walter Richard Buss (1905-2000)
Walter was born 1 Nov 1905 in Provo, Utah County, Utah to Fred Earle Buss and Edith Bliss Rumsey Buss. His family moved to Palo Alto, California, where he attended San Jose State College. He obtained his bachelors and masters degrees at BYU and doctorate from Stanford University. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Weber State University, Ogden UT.
On 30 Nov 1928 he married Edna Taylor (daughter of George Bailey Taylor, descendant of William Taylor through his son Joseph) in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were the parents of five children. Walter taught geology and geography at Weber State University for 41 years. Students remember his field trips to various national parks. He retired from Weber in 1974. He was active in his church, serving as Family History Center worker, high councilor, high priest group leader, and bishop's counselor. He helped compile a book on Buss genealogy.
Walter died 16 Jul 2000 in South Jordan, Salt Lake County, Utah of natural causes. He was survived by four children, 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Burial was 20 Jul 2000 in Ogden City Cemetery.
