& Sarah "Sallie" Miller (1813-1873)

from "Family History of the Joseph Taylor, Jr. and Sarah Best Family"
by Shari H. Franke

Alfred Cherry, born 25 December 1813, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky, must have been a delightfull Christmas present for his parents! Alfred married 2 October 1834, Sarah "Sallie" Miller, at Warren County, Kentucky. The Marriage record said that Adam Miller was bondsman. Alfred Cherry is son of Mary Ann Taylor and Samuel Cherry. Alfred was very well thought of by all of the Taylor family. The author saw his name numerous times in the Warren County records. He was named guardian of various children. He was named as Executor in Wills, etc. He must have been very trustworthy. His stepfather, Elijah Upton, must have thought the same of him as he did his own sons. In Elijah's Will dated 30 May 1857, Warren County, Kentucky, he gave an equal share of his estate to his stepson Alfred Cherry. Alfred was even named an Executor to his Will. Alfred died 17 May 1873, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky. He died only five days after his beloved Sarah. Was it an epidemic? Both he and Sarah were buried at the Green River Union Cemetery, Warren, Kentucky. Alfred Cherry left a Will dated 18 September 1871, Warren County, which was proven in May Term Court 1873, Warren County. The Will showed him to be very generous to his children--he gave each of his sons portions of his property prior to the writing of his Will. He even provided for Samuel T. Cherry's daughter Mary Belle Cherry, 10 years old, in his Will.

Sarah "Sallie" Miller was born 5 October 1813 at Warren County, Kentucky, the daughter of Adam Miller and Betsy Runner. She was the mother of seven children. Sarah died 12 May 1873, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky.

Mrs. Nora Young Ferguson said that "Alfred Cherry is the ancestor of many Cherry descendants along the Green River. Those who have moved to the northern and eastern part of the country have made good in the commercial world." Alfred Cherry and Sarah Miller's children were: Samuel T. , Adam, William Jackson, John A., Sarah G., Elijah Emmanuel and Aaron B.
