149 - ejbjohnson@citlink.net - I am searching for James E. Taylor who married Sarah Ann Ballard Oct. 31, 1844 in Bedford Co., VA. He also married Catherine Walters after Sarah Ann died. I believe that he was the son of John Taylor and Sarah but I cannot determine which John Taylor and which Sarah as there were several John Taylors who married a Sarah in that area at that time. James E. had ties to Bedford, Montgomery, and Campbell counties and was an overseer in those counties at different times. He is buried in the Walters cemetery in Montgomery Co., VA and the info on his tombstone says that he was born 28 Jan., 1821 and died 31 Mar, 1908.

Mr. Taylor was said to be a nephew of President Zachary Taylor, who had a plantation, on which he settled, in the Baton Rouge Parish of Lousiana. There are several hundred Taylors and Taylor descendants in Baton Rouge, both white and black. Eugene Taylor, who was white, had 40 children by four light skinned(probably mullatto) black women. My Grand Mother was Anna Belle Taylor Harris. Mr. Taylor was said to be a Parish(County)Court Magistrate, from a well to do family. He also supported all of his children, in a way similar to Mormon polygamists. Any information on this matter is appreciated, as Eugene Taylor descendants are preparing for their 2005 family reunion.

Marcus married Emeline Unknown, she was from Burke County, N.C. their children were: Wesley Allen Taylor born 1838 probably in Burke County, N.C., Annie Taylor 1840, Joel Taylor 1842, Mary Taylor 1845, George M. Taylor 1849 and John M. Taylor 1854, Marcus was found in the Caldwell County, N.C. census in 1840 and the Burke County Census in 1850 he died sometime between 1850-1860. His youngest son John M. Was bound out to Richard Lewis when he was about 5. John M. Taylor probably went to Idaho and Wa. State with his wife's brother Jesse Pipes, but nothing is know of this family after that. The other members have either remained in Burke,or Catawba Co. N.C.. Marcus has been very difficult to find as to who his father was. Since his two sons are George M. and John M. his name could have been George Marcus or John Marcus. But of course that is a guess. If you have any knowledge of this Taylor family that probably came from Va to these counties, Please help. I am just lost as to where to look for them. Thank you

Benjamin was found in Jasper County, Ga getting married to Lovy Jeffries in 1830. He is then found in the Jasper County, Pike County, and Randolph County, Census. Ben is listed in the 1880 Mortality census of Randolph County. He is buried in the Hawk Family Cemetery there.

I am not sure if there was any mention of her parents or siblings or grandparents. That would be all I have, but am trying to find more info. Here is the info: Thelma Frances Taylor Father- James Albert Taylor Mother- Lula Ann Gillispie brothers- Cecil, Cebert, Arney, Lawson. Sisters- Minnie May, Cora Ann, Eva James' parents- Joseph and Susan Ann Taylor (she is supposed to be a Taylor also) Joseph and/or James may not have been Taylors. There was some kind of story about the actual father died, and the mother, maybe Susan?, may have been remarried and gave the Taylor name to them. I am not sure. James was born 1880 and died in 1948 in Gallipolis Ferry, W. V. Lula was born in 1890 and died in 1931 in/around Winfield, W. Va. from TB. I have always been told that Joseph died in Va. by a herd of horses and that Susan left Va. with the children, and followed the Midland Trail, now known as Route 60, and settled in Gallipolis, Ohio where her aunt had a hotel and she worked for her. Lula's parents where William McKinley Gillispie (I assume this is the right spelling) and unknown Wolford. William owned property at the back end of "Stev?" Branch Road. He was told by some other man, that if he signed the property over to him, then he would get old age pension, so he did it, and as a result, he lost the property. This is about all of the info at this point. Please let me know if this is in any way connected. I would GREATLY appreciate it.

My grandfather married Mary Adams of Gadsden, Alabama, in the 1920s. They had three children, all boys, in the following order: James Dixon Taylor, b. 1920 in Alabama, probably Etowah County LIVING Taylor, b. 1921, ditto Clark Adams Taylor, b. 11/20/25, in Clearwater, Florida My father was Clark Adams Taylor. His father died when he was 3 years old; therefore, probably in 1928. I understand that the death took place in Milton, Florida. My grandfather reportedly was a probate judge and land surveyor. He and his family were in Florida due to my grandfather's work. My grandmother returned to Alabama with the casket and 3 little boys. She sent the body of my grandfather on to Tennessee, where he had been born and raised. We heard very little or nothing about my grandfather while I was growing up. I assume my grandfather's name could have been that of my uncle, his firstborn: James Dixon Taylor. There was also a Comer line in my grandfather's ancestry. Does any of this ring any bells, whatsoever? Could you possibly take the time to steer me in the right directions?

I last found Charles in the 1900 KY census at Williamsburg, but cannot trace him after that time period. I do know his sons, Ben and James, ran a grocery on Main Street in Williamsburg, but that is pretty much about it.

Children are William Riley, 1811-1850; Hardina, 1812-Between 1853-1855; Joanna, 1815-1839; Creed, 1820-1906; Josiah II, 1821-1864; Pitkin, 1822-1873; Rufus, 1824-1854; James, 1825-1852; and Mary Jane, 1830-1891.
