Co. On arrival at Salt Lake City, settled at mouth of Mill
CreekCanyon. Moved
to Kaysville, Davis, Utah, 1850, and was chosen Bishop there in 1854.
Called by Brigham Young to go down and help settle the Dixie countryin
1862. Went by ox teams over 300 miles. Left Kaysville 30 May
1862.Arrived
in Dixie 12 July 1862. It was a bleak, dark, dreary, forsaken looking
place and we felt we had got nearly to the jumping off
place."(Margaret
Jane Ellison Taylor) They first lived at Harrisburg. Next they
movedto a
little settlement called New Harmony. Allen & William Riley
wereasked to help
with the building of the St. George Temple. It was started in 1871and
completed and dedicated 6 April 1877. The Dixie country was
fastbecoming
so thickly populated that Allen and William Riley Taylor decided
itwould be
best for them and their families to move to another locality so
therewould be
more room for their large families and livestock. They also wanted
tobe able
to have their children settle close by them. So in 1881,
WilliamRiley and
family again loaded their wagons with their belongings and moved
fromNew
Harmony to what was then knwon as Rabbit Valley. (They raised
sheephere.)
Called Loa, Fremont, Utah, in 1883. Died at Loa. (some of this

Note: Allen Taylor and (2) Hannah Egbert were divorced. She did
notwant to
continue living in polygamy.
